Westholme School is deeply saddened to share the news of the death of former student Abigail Norcross Clarke (née Godfrey), known affectionately to many as Abi.

Abi was a much-loved and exceptional member of the Westholme community. From her earliest days at school, she combined academic excellence with creativity, confidence and a zest for life.

An A* student in her public examinations, Abi was recognised for her natural flair for business and her outstanding mathematical ability. Former Principal Lillian Croston remembers her as “a mature and conscientious student” with remarkable intellectual flexibility - equally adept with numerical and written work, never afraid to explore new ideas and always curious in her approach.

Yet Abi’s gifts extended far beyond the classroom. She excelled in A Level Drama and Theatre during her time in Sixth Form, where her talent shone brightly in numerous plays and musicals. Her creativity, infectious enthusiasm and vibrant spirit made her not only a compelling and believable actress, but a cherished member of every cast and crew.

As her former teacher Cath Roberts-Lyle reflects, Abi’s remarkable stage presence was matched by her kindness, laughter and unwavering support for others. She had a rare ability to uplift those around her.

Friends from her year group recall a Sixth Form filled with joy, friendship and shared happy memories. Abi embraced school life fully - energetic, fun-loving and always ready to take part. She was ambitious too.

After leaving Westholme, Abi pursued a career in corporate finance, training with Deloitte in Manchester before becoming a director in Grant Thornton’s North West corporate finance team. There, she led the firm’s national pharmaceuticals and life sciences sector, earning widespread respect as one of the region’s rising stars in professional services. Her analytical brilliance, leadership and professionalism were widely admired, but it was her warmth, humility and infectious energy that colleagues and clients remember most.

Former teacher Debbie Northin remembers Abi as “a particularly talented and sunny-natured girl - a bundle of energy and fun who took every opportunity to take part in all activities. Abigail epitomised the spirit of Westholme and will remain in the memory of so many school friends and teachers.”

Above all, Abi was a devoted wife to John and a loving mother to Leo.

Abi will always remain a cherished member of the Westholme School community. We are immensely proud of the young woman she was, the professional she became, and the difference she made to so many lives. Her warmth, talent and vibrant spirit will be remembered with affection, gratitude and deep respect.

A service to celebrate Abi’s life will take place at All Hallows Church, Great Mitton, at 12 noon on Thursday 19 February, followed by a committal service at Skipton Crematorium.
